Card checkout for merchants in the UAE

A 2D payment gateway for the UAE is the card path: number, expiry, and security code, without an extra one-time password on attempts the acquirer and the card allow. Apple Pay and a pay link confirm in their own way.

What merchants in the UAE are asking for

Shops in the UAE take payments on a website, in an app, and from a link sent on WhatsApp, SMS, or email. Some sell only in dirhams. Others also take riyals, dollars, pounds, or euros because their customers are not all in one city. Arabic and English both show up at checkout. A single card form in one language is a poor fit for that mix.

The card path people call 2D is still specific. The customer enters the card number and the expiry, and the security code when the gateway asks for it. A one-time password appears when the network requires 3-D Secure. It does not appear on every attempt, and a merchant cannot honestly promise that it never will. The acquirer, the card, the merchant category, and the rules for that payment decide.

2D Payment Gateway will not print a fee in dirhams, an approval rate, or a licence number on this page. Those terms are discussed through the contact form for the merchant in front of us.

How customers in the UAE complete a payment

Cards

Domestic and international cards are still the core of online checkout. The customer can pay in dirhams or in another currency the gateway presents.

  • Wallets on the device. Apple Pay and Samsung Pay confirm on the phone the customer is holding. That device check is not the same step as a card number typed into a page.
  • Pay links. A merchant without a full website can send a link by WhatsApp, SMS, or email, with a fixed amount or an amount the customer enters.
  • Checkout on your own site. An API, a plugin for a common cart, or a secure frame lets the card fields sit on the merchant’s page. The customer should not have to create an account only to pay.

One integration, more than one ending

UAE checkouts that work in practice offer the methods customers already trust: cards, device wallets, and a link that can travel in chat. Buy now, pay later shows up on some gateways through a partner. Invoices sit beside one-off checkout. A plugin for WooCommerce, Shopify, or a similar cart is the usual way a shop goes live. A custom app uses the API. A failed try should say why it stopped and offer another attempt. That is not a promise that every payment will be approved.

Card password and phone confirm

In the UAE a customer can pay with a card typed into the browser, or with a wallet that never shows the card number to the merchant. Apple Pay and Samsung Pay ask the customer to confirm on the device. A pay link opened from WhatsApp can end in either of those, depending on what the customer chooses on the page.

The 2D card path is only the typed card. It finishes from the card details when no extra password is required for that attempt. When the issuer asks for a one-time password, the customer still has to enter it. Device wallets do not become a card form, and a card form does not become Apple Pay.

Questions before you apply

Will every UAE payment skip a one-time password?

No. A device wallet confirms on the phone. A card payment skips the extra password only when the acquirer, the card, and the network allow that attempt. Other card attempts still use 3-D Secure.

Can we take payments without a website?

Yes. A pay link can go out by WhatsApp, SMS, or email. A full website checkout is a separate integration.

Do you list a public fee in dirhams?

No. This page does not invent a rate. The commercial terms are part of the conversation for your business.

Which carts can connect?

Common carts such as WooCommerce and Shopify are the usual plugin path. A custom site uses the API. We confirm the exact cart when you write.
